Botox for Spasticity

Dr. Barrish has over 15 years of experience administering Botox injections, mainly to treat muscle spasticity. Patients with various disorders, including stroke, spinal cord injury, brain injury and Multiple Sclerosis often develop significantly elevated muscle tone and involuntary muscle spasm. Botox is FDA approved for treatment of upper extremity spasticity, but also has been shown to be effective in the lower extremities. Often Botox injection is combined with an aggressive stretching and rehabilitation program, to take full advantage of the effects of Botox.

Botox Cosmetic

Dr. Barrish offers Botox Cosmetic services. Botox is used to improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines), as well as crow’s feet (lateral canthal lines) around the eyes. Injections have been FDA approved for cosmetic purposes since 2002.

Botox For Migraine

Recently, Dr. Barrish added Botox for Migraine to the services he offers. According to Dr. Barrish, clinical studies have shown significant benefit for those who suffer from chronic migraines, defined as at least 15 headache days/month. Botox has been shown to be effective in reducing the frequency of migraine headaches, and is now FDA approved for that purpose. The realization that Botox could help treat migraines came about anecdotally from patients receiving Botox Cosmetic, who also suffered from migraine headaches. They reported a reduction in migraine frequency and severity.
