Dr. Barrish has his roots in Newark, Delaware. He graduated from St. Mark’s High School in 1986 and received a degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Delaware in 1990. He attended Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia from 1992-1996. While at Jefferson, Dr. Barrish developed an interest in Musculoskeletal Medicine as well as functional restoration of patients with disabilities.

After returning to Delaware to complete a one year Internship at the Medical Center of Delaware (Christiana Hospital), he and his wife, Susan (also a St. Mark’s grad), moved to Dallas, Texas for three years of Residency training in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Baylor University Medical Center. His training in PM&R involved rehabilitation of patients with spinal cord injuries, strokes, amputations, brain injuries, cerebral palsy, and other disabling conditions. After serving as Chief Resident his senior year at Baylor/Dallas, he completed Residency in 2000.

His training then took Dr. Barrish and his family to Charlottesville, Virginia for Fellowship training in Sports & Spine Medicine at the University of Virginia Medical Center. He was honored as Outstanding Outpatient Instructor for his dedicated service in Resident Education at the PM&R Department at The University of Virginia.

Dr. Barrish has practiced in Southern Delaware since 2001. As a Board Certified Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation specialist, he utilizes non-surgical interventions to treat patients with various musculoskeletal and neurologic conditions, including overuse injuries, arthritis, sports and work-related injuries, neck and back pain, and peripheral nerve conditions. Dr. Barrish also has extensive experience performing EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies to diagnose radiculopathy, sciatica, peripheral neuropathy, carpal tunnel syndrome, and other disorders of the peripheral nerves.

Dr. Barrish, his wife, and three children, live in Sussex County. In addition to spending time with his family, Dr. Barrish enjoys playing golf, and is an avid fan of the Washington Redskins and NASCAR.
